William Eugene Smith was born in Wichita, Kansas, in 1918(spartacus-educational.com). He began taking photographs in 1932.(spartacus-educational.com)
In 1942(spartacus-educational.com) Smith began to take photos at battle in the Pacific for three years(spartacus-educational.com) Smith became known for his photographs that were taken during the invasion of Okinawa in April 1945.(spartacus-educational.com) On 23rd May(spartacus-educational.com) Smith was hit by a Japanese shell shrapnel while taking pictures. After being hit he had numerous surgeries and hospitalized for two years.(spartacus-educational.com) In 1939 Robert Capa immigrated to the United States.(spartacus-educational.com) By 1942 he was recruited to take photographs for the war in Europe .(spartacus-educational.com) After europe to Capa went to North Africa and then onto Italy. Robert Capa was best known for his great work on D-Day, He captured around 108 photos. (spartacus-educational.com) Even after Robert Capa survived World War II he was killed while reporting in Vietnam. He stepped on a mine and died in 1954.(spartacus-educational.com) |
